#264 | SECANE STATION & UNDERPASS

Upper Darby, PA

Owner:

SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY (SEPTA)

Engineer:

GANNETT FLEMING

Cost:

$11,990,000.00

This project constructed a completely new, fully handicap accessible railway station, which includes 1,200 LF of elevated concrete platforms, a ticketing facility, restrooms, canopy roofs, modern passenger shelters and amenities, and an underpass tunnel for safely accessing both inbound and outbound tracks.  This new construction replaced a small, outdated, at-grade facility.  The work requires installation of approximately sixty 36-inch diameter concrete caissons—of variable depths up to 50 VF—into competent rock, in order to support the new platforms and station building.  Additionally, an intricate series of cast-in-place concrete switchback ramps and stairs provide enhanced access to the station building and platforms for all riders.
