The critical Exton Train Station is shared by SEPTA, on their Paoli/Thorndale Line, and Amtrak, on their three-track Harrisburg Line.  This improvement project upgrades the entire station’s handicap accessibility, consisting of 1,400 linear feet of new elevated concrete passenger platforms, a station building, shelters and canopies, increased parking lot facilities, and improved storm water control, which utilizes the underground infiltration basins constructed under the parking lots.  The scope requires construction of a 150 linear feet post-and-plank retaining wall, with steel posts (encased in 42-inch diameter caissons) extending 40 feet into the existing ground.  Additionally, an intricate series of cast-in-place concrete switchback ramps and stairs provide enhanced access for all riders.
