New Jersey Turnpike Bridge Rehabilitation and Underpinning Contracts: PKF-Mark III, Inc. repaired four bridge structures in Salem County for the NJTA. Consisting of precast piles, the existing deep foundation elements were failing and thus required the bridges to be underpinned by utilizing 8” diameter micropiles. Each of the four bridges was a mainline Turnpike structure crossing existing waterways. PKF constructed cofferdams that enabled drilling of micropiles via on-land access. Utilizing low headroom rigs, PKF self-performed the installation of approximately 1,000 micropiles ranging from 65 - 95 linear feet deep.
